Merónimos en p’orhépecha: términos nominales y afijos verbales espaciales

Resumen

Las lenguas mesoamericanas constituyen un campo fértil de investigación sobre los mecanismos que subyacen a la asignación de merónimos (partes de una entidad): extensiones metafóricas de términos que denotan partes del cuerpo (MacLaury, 1989) vs. un algoritmo basado en la geometría de la fi gura (Levinson, 1994).Este artículo muestra que en p’orhépecha coexisten dos sistemas de merónimos: afijos verbales y términos nominales. Se evidencia que la asignación de afijos responde a un modelo algorítmico, y que las extensiones metafóricas no son productivas en la lengua.Asimismo, se muestra que la manera en que se establecen las relaciones parte-todo y entre partes de un todo se fundamenta en relaciones espaciales/locativas.
