Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the sign language history. Nowadays this discipline is named sign linguistcs. The sign language studies began in the 1960’s, it’s interesting to recognize how the research about this languages had evolved. In this study I briefly show some aspects about the deaf community and their languages. This relation is relevant because it points up that the sign languages are natural languages. Here I present the development of the history of the study of sign languages in three stages: the origin, the beginning and their course, and finally the scope.
