Lenguas y naciones: dinámicas sociolingüísticas en la Europa del siglo XXI

Abstract

Throughout history, specific sociolinguistic dynamics correspond to each type of government or State structure. Recent events show us the complexity of the geolinguistic construction of Europe, and deserve a detailed analysis. Language policies of/in the European institutions or supranational policies with an impact on State language planning are recent and have only just started to have their effects felt on the sociolinguistic dynamics of Europe. However, although State sovereignty in this matter is not threatened, the weight of the European institutions is more and more apparent and can bring about real changes.
