States and perfectivity in Spanish

Abstract

The combination of states with perfectivity constitutes a linguistic phenomenon that has not been satisfactorily explained so far, since the wide-spread assumptions about those two concepts are to be revisited. In this sense, it is necessary to decide to what extent it is still convenient to speak about durativity when refering to static situations, as well as to determine whether perfective forms are really meant to express that temporal evolution of predicates has come to an end. Once I have accounted for these ideas separately, I will move on to the relationship between the lexical and grammatical aspect from an innovative point of view, i. e. in terms of truth conditions of sentences.
