Vowels in Cuban Spanish. An acoustic phonetic study of Havana speech samples

Abstract

Abstract: This article presents a phonetic study of Cuban Spanish vowels between bilabial consonants (context known as normal phonetic position), in Havana speech samples. From the acoustic, articulatory and statistical analysis, the formative letters of the vowels in normal phonetic position in this linguistic variety are obtained; they also represent the fields of dispersion and the limits of each vowel class, aspects that have not been treated in phonetic investigations of Cuban Spanish. The analysis also established a frequency value of the vowel formants for each timbre. The corpus is made up of a total of 40 carrier phrases, embedded in sentences that were recorded from university speakers born and living in Havana.
