Abstract

The work approaches the processes of inclusion and exclusion in the education of indigenous students who have chosen to be professionalized by means of the careers that the Universidad Intercultural de Chiapas (UNICH) offers. In 1997, when the amendments to the Constitution acknowledged Mexico as a multicultural country for the first time, multicultural education became a social novelty. In this study, the UNICH is analyzed through the model of a “school of the equality of opportunity”, something which has made young Indian and mestizo students aware of the fact that it is not only a place of inclusion, but also a place where processes of exclusion are developing through the model of intercultural education.
