Abstract

Final Lengthening is the change in segments duration due to their position at the end of a constituent. In other words, it is one of the acoustic cues that assists the listener in the perception of boundaries between constituents. The present study is a first approach to the phenomenon of Final Lengthening in Spanish. Duration of different words are compared in different positions within the sentence, and paired t-tests are performed in search for statistical significance. Results suggest the existence of Final Lengthening in Spanish.
