THE SETTLEMENT OF CUBA AND THE NATIONAL LANGUAGE OF CUBANS

Abstract

Abstract: The peopling and repeopling of Cuba by immigrants with different languages and cultures during colonial period gave birth to a new ethnic group through cultural and biological miscegenation: the Creole, who’s modality of Spanish language became the linguistic support of the culture and identity of Cuban nation. This study also includes the non-linguistic elements that also played their roles on the imposition of local modality of Spanish as a national language.
